Dear Members of New Life Lutheran Church:
As many you are aware on Thursday, May 13th, the CDC declared that fully vaccinated people were safe, indoors, without masks. As I stated Sunday, three days is too short of a time slot to mobilize our leaders and make a decision of great magnitude that is thoughtful and thorough.
Our faithful Church Council rose to the occasion and has been in discussion, via e-mail primarily, discussing the outcome of the CDC announcement and the impact it may have on our congregation. After much thoughtful and thorough conversation, it is the general consensus of the Church Council that we continue to wear our mask in worship until the end of this month.
Some of our members are just now starting to feel comfortable coming back to church. And many of our members are not fully vaccinated. When given the choice of erring on the side of caution or convenience, we must err on the side of caution. As I mentioned, love of our members is our primary motivation.
In the meantime, we will continue to monitor the cases of Covid-19 in our surrounding area. We will continue to pay attention to vaccinations of children 12 and older. More people will be vaccinated making herd immunity possible. In short, many things can happen between now and the end of the month.
In the meantime, keep the Church Council in your prayers. We love you very much and we look forward to the day when can move beyond our current pandemic. Continue to pray for all of our health professionals as they continue to be a source of healing. Continue to pray for all who are suffering from Covid-19 and the after affects of Covid-19.
